Ending Gun Violence in Yolo County
About us
YoloAP is dedicated to reducing gun violence in Yolo County. Our mission is clear: we invest in the individuals closest to gun violence, empowering them to transform their lives. Traditional systems of support often fail to reach those most deeply entrenched in these cycles of violence, leading to a lack of trust and further exacerbating the problem. By addressing the root causes of violence and offering pathways to redemption and success, we break the cycle of gun hostilities and alter the trajectories of these individuals' lives. We believe in collaboration, working closely with both public and community-based stakeholders to develop responsive, community-driven strategies. Together, we achieve high-impact outcomes and create lasting change for those caught in the grip of urban gun violence.
Reports
To objectively access our effectiveness in gun violence reduction, we contract to the Center for Global Healthy Cities at UC Berkely to collect and evaluate our data and the effect of gun violence in the community. We submit information about our outreach efforts and fellow engagement to them to record and determine the progress we are making in our outreach. They also gather information from law enforcement agencies and issue an annual report of our activities and trends in gun violence in Yolo County.
Our Team
For us to engage potential participants, our staff builds trust in the community and forms relationships with community members. Staff is specifically selected for their ties to the community and understanding of the lifestyle of our fellows. By hiring people with deep ties and understanding of the community, our street outreach workers, called Neighborhood Change Advocates (NCAs) can effectively meet the fellows where they are in their life journey and help guide them to making healthier life choices.
